The Japanese photographer, Nobuyoshi Araki said: “It can’t be a journey without a camera.”

Before becoming a photographer, many great photographers experience a journey and therefore start their creative career with a camera. This is true with the following three photographers who take photos on their journeys. They take the express train with mindful contemplation, roam around the scenes with their lens, and then present the touching images in front of us. Let’s read the touching moments of the journeys together with the photographers!

Slow-paced Old Teahouse in Sichuan

In the remote town of Sichuan, China, there is an old teahouse that is isolated from the world. Like a hall of historical relics, it records people’s daily life as they drink tea, play cards, and take a nap. Photographer Liu Wan-ching captures the old tea tables, old bamboo chairs, and old tea guests of the teahouse. They quietly tell the stories of the days in the mist-shrouded teahouse. There is no hustle and bustle from vehicles on the unfamiliar land far away from any city. The furniture and piles of old things symbolize the years gone by and the restless youth of the past. The images make it almost possible to smell the strong tea aroma and the inaudible dialect whispers.

Shake Hands with the World, Record the Sincere Moments

“Shaking hands” is regarded as the friendly wishes, gratitude, mutual encouragement and symbol of mutual trust. People’s hands can bring great power. Reaching out hands to strangers is as warm as giving invisible embraces. Photographer Wang Chih-chieh used his hands to shake hands with the world on past journeys. At the same time, he took the photos of shaking hands and interacting with people in different places of the world with his camera. The moments of holding hands firmly is the most instinctive, sincere, and interesting interactions. People’s indescribable reactions are worth recording. Due to the pandemic of the past two years, people wear masks and minimize body contact with strangers and disinfect hands before touching each other. The tiny virus has widened the distance and broken the trust between people. We expect to naturally interact with the world and exchange goodness for the tenderness and loveliness of the world after the pandemic.

Backlight to the Brightness of the Polar Circle

“The day has light. The night has stars.” —“The Stars of the Galaxies──Wen Luo Ting Café” is written by poet, Lin Wan-yu. As the light of the day brightens everything it touches, we seek the best position in the darkness and capture the movement in the light. The photographer Kyo travels to and takes photos of Alaska almost every year. For him, the rare natural scenery of Alaska is worth waiting for again and again. The backlit winding roads guide the returning visitors. The shining dog shaking its fur by the lake turns into the focus. The slanting electric pole turns into the sacred redemption. The jogger finds warmth and energy in the light. Kyo’s works acquaint us with the remote land of the polar region as well as the spiritual aura of Alaska. They are always ready the moment the shutter is pressed.
