Capturing Ephemeral Beauty: The Timeless Art of Pictorialism
Exhibition Statement:
Photography, in its nascent stage, initially served as a realistic art form oriented towards replacing painting techniques. As photographic technology evolved, it progressed from pictorial realism to various thematic developments driven by the imagination and expertise of photographers. However, with the increasing competitiveness and integration of photo lens technology into everyday life, the unique appeal of photography has diminished in Taiwan. The current development of photography in Taiwan is influenced by advancements in lens technology, lifestyle changes, and interpersonal communication media. This resurgence has sparked new ideas among photography enthusiasts, prompting them to re-interpret and express themselves through this trend. Consequently, the current global trend of a “Photographic Art Renaissance” is presenting compelling and diverse developmental aspects. Photographers are not only mastering the momentary technical aspects of the lens but are also enhancing their own interpretative concepts of their works in the process of capturing them through the lens.
I've been following the trends and evolution of photographic art, first in the 1960s and then re-engaging in 2007. Looking forward, I look forward to a future where various perspectives and schools of thought will continue to thrive!
