Taiwan is a country of volcanoes. “Dao” is the Chinese character for “island” and it is composed of the semantic component of “mountain” and the phonetic component of “bird.” Indeed, the origin of an island has many unknown aspects. We are islanders living on the naturally-formed land surrounded by ocean. Since the birth of the planet, eons have passed. Today humans are able to fly in the sky and have connection to islands all over the world.

Therefore, this is the first time for you to encounter the colors of Taiwan, the shape of the island, and the facial expression of a hometown, where the breeze that you’ve never felt is blowing.

From island to island, I crossed the ocean like a migratory bird flying high and always aware of the wind, observing and taking photos of Taiwan from the sky. As a Japanese person, with awe and sincerity, I have recorded and praised this land of Taiwan, this country of your birth, which is still just as beautiful today. Taiwan has been continuously changing the world. In Taiwan, there are always new winds blowing. The passion passed on from the people’s breath is full of hope. I hope this space can give someone a helping hand somewhere and therefore I decided the title for this exhibition.
