Exhibition Statement:

In the spring of 2019, I arrived in Hualien and stumbled upon a vast expanse of land in the valley, initiating an unexpected dialogue about land, nature, and inner self. Throughout the development of my 'Drawing Landscape' photography series, I aimed to transcend the dimensions of photographic works, enabling on-site drawings to be presented to the audience in a nearly one-to-one scale.
Boldly, I made a call to my artist friend, Chung Soon-Long, asking if he could assist me in capturing this new piece, and unexpectedly, he agreed to my request. Before the official shoot, I spent a lot of time riding a motorcycle alone through the countryside of Fenglin. I discovered a hidden beauty subtly drawing me in, concealed within the unassuming corners of Fenglin. I tried not to overthink, carrying a large bag of 'material kits' containing various papers, wires, fabrics, and more. Once moved by the scenery before me, I excitedly squatted by the roadside to set up.
During the shooting process, my assistants and I often woke up at three-thirty in the morning, leaving by four to reach the installation site, hoping to capture the photographs before the harsh morning sun. However, more often than not, just when everything was ready, the wind would pick up or rain would start, rendering our morning's toil futile. Finally, on that beautiful morning when nature cooperated, Soon-Long expertly handled the 4x5 camera while the assistants quietly counted to thirty seconds beside it. At that moment, no one present dared to move; everything turned into the blank spaces within the photographs, becoming emptiness and nothingness in nature. They did not exist in the past or future, belonged to no one, and in the end, only left behind an eternal sense.
