Q 1 May photos taken with mobile phones be entered?
A 1 Digital camera, traditional camera and mobile phone photos are all acceptable. Photos should be at least 8 megapixels, JPG or TIFF files sized at least 2481 x 3507 pixels to insure good image quality.
Q 2 Can both traditional photos and digital photos be entered? How should electronic files for traditional photos be submitted?
A 2 Traditional photo negatives and digital photos may both be submitted. Traditional photo negatives can be developed at a common photo shop. Simply ask them to output digital files.
Q 3 May entries be edited?
A 3 Judging will be weighted 60% for image quality, 20% for creativity and 20% for composition.
Q 4 May people from any country enter the competitions?
A 4 Anyone who loves photography is welcome to participate. There are no limits on nationality or age.
Q 5 Should entries submitted by mail be posted as registered or regular mail?
A 5 We recommend that submissions be sent by registered mail to avoid losing your work.
Q 6 Should the five photos all be of the same subject? Or should they be five photos of five different subjects?
A 6 ”A series of five photos” is a set, five photos of the same subject.
Q 7 Is it allowed to have one less or one more than five photos in a series?
A 7 A topic must have five photos (a set). If you have more than five photos, you must remove one or your submissions will not be accepted.
Q 8 Must the entries be framed?
A 8 Entries are not required to be framed. Place the five photos in a transparent A4-size folder and include your registration information in a separate included envelope.
Q 9 Can submitted photos be square? If there are white margins on the paper after the photos are output, is this acceptable?
A 9 Square photos are permitted. Print the photo to fill the short dimension of your paper. For example if you are printing on 8x12” paper, the 8” side is the short dimension. Participants may decide whether or not to leave a white margin around their photos. It will not affect their scoring
Q 10 What should be the subject of the photographs?
A 10 The subject is to be decided by each participant. “A set of five photos” is a set of five photographs together in sequence telling a story.
Q 11 Should a title card be attached to each photograph?
A 11 To facilitate the evaluation process and to confirm the work and artist, please attach these to each corresponding photo.
Q 12 May a registered participant be two or more people?
A 12 The organizer has announced that a contestant will be a single person, two or more people collaborating on an entry is not allowed.
Q 13 What kind of paper should the photos be printed on?
A 13 This contest does not specify the photo paper to be used. Photography paper and art paper are all acceptable, but don’t use copy machine paper.
Q 14 How can I know the number of my entry?
A 14 Numbers are assigned by the organizers. Participants do not need to provide the number.
Q 15 May I submit contest entries at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi retail outlets on holidays?
A 15 Contest entries for the photography competition may be submitted to any Shin Kong Mitsukoshi store before the cut-off date of November 15, 2019. If you have any questions about business hours, call any outlet for more information.
