In the cage|

入選 Selected Work Award

Whether we’re hands-on and energetic, or passive and unambitious, our lives tend to be in a rut. We drift along with the rest, now stopping, now going, our movements and behaviors constantly restrained by visible or invisible frameworks and conventions. Gradually, we get used to the restrictions and constraints that control almost our lives. And we are even hardly aware of how much of our lives is determined by external factors.
Through my pictures, I would like to put this kind of awareness into a sharp focus for myself.
It is like finding the cage of life with the ruminations. And the question that arises is, will you keep living numbly, or will you say goodbye to the shackles of human bondage because your spirit has found a way out?

Singapore
Experience:

When looking for photos of myself to submit to the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi International Photo-taking Contest, I discover (after having spent quite some time looking) that there is a few of pictures having me in it. And I am sure many other photography lovers will have had similar experiences like I do. We are so focused on taking good pictures ourselves, on capturing that elusive play of light and shade and freezing the moments in time by pressing the shutter button greedily. More than that, this brings us many wonderful surprises and a deep inner satisfaction.
(Last year I did not participate in this contest, yet I saw that I shared the exact same name with the winner of the first prize. Isn’t one of those “surprises?”)
