The Place of Fleeting Light
There are numerous Lost Places that exist within the city, large and small, that have detached—temporarily or permanently—from the urban network. Their presence fluctuates- hidden, ambiguous, abandoned, or indefinable. In the idealized vision of a city, they are treated as embolisms to urban flow, lesions hindering progress, fragmental lands waiting for development, or even the remains of a dying city. In fact, these places are merely the epitome of urban metabolism, usually born from the collapse of everyday life.
To photograph these places is not to condemn the death of the city, but to accept both imperfection and decay as inherent parts of the city’s life. Though they are lost, they are still places of light. In that fleeting, shimmering light, I use photography as a form of personal witness to reveal Genius Loci— the spirit of the place that appears lost, yet truly exists.
