Yet to Be Seen: The Gaze of a Hypothetical Photographer

If a photographer were standing on the opposite side of my lens, moving with me as I raise the camera, linger, and wait, it might become a silent form of mutual regard.
Such a presence may exist, or it may never appear at all. That gaze remains unconfirmed, suspended between imagination and reality, still waiting to be seen.
My photographs are not simply traces of what I observe. They also point toward another possible position of looking - one that shifts the direction of the gaze. As I see the world, I may also be in a state where no gaze has yet found its way back.
Yet to Be Seen is not concerned with absence, but with a presence held in suspension.
The images remain quietly between looking and being looked at, waiting for a way of being seen from the other side.

Oliver Huang

Oliver Huang is a photographer born in Taiwan and currently based in Scotland.
He has been exhibiting since 2021. His practice is inspired by different ways of seeing, from encounters with others to moments of solitude and attunement with himself and the surrounding environment. These shifts in distance and perspective shape a calm and attentive visual language,
allowing the work to remain engaging while carrying a quiet sense of presence.
At the core of Oliver’s work is a commitment to sincerity. Regardless of medium or approach, his work returns to a clear and simple intention: to express what he genuinely seeks to say.
He remains mindful of expectations, without allowing them to become defining, embraces imperfection, and presents his work as an authentic reflection of his lived reality.
